Vyšší Brod Monastery

The monastery in Vyšší Brod was founded by Vok of Rožmberk in 1259. Vok summoned Cistercians from Wilhering in Austria and, according to his will, this place became the family monastery. This Vyšší Brod church represents the largest Czech family mausoleum with continuity from the 13th to the 17th century – ten generations of the Rožmberk family are buried here. The monastery can currently be visited: from 1 May to 30 September it is open daily except Monday – the first tour starts at 9:30 and the last at 17:00, while on Sundays tours start only at 12:30. Out of season, a tour can be arranged by appointment.
