The red trail leads towards the Iron Curtain Memorial in Gulgwald. This trail will take you through the Czech-Austrian border region, where you will enjoy picturesque views, historical monuments, and refreshment in the Horský Stream. In the first part of the route, which follows the orange trail, you will have the opportunity to observe the remains of the Iron Curtain and pass by the abandoned village of Mutterberg. Proceed across the meadow to the Swedish Wall, passing our artistic bench, which offers a beautiful view of Hirschenstein Hill with its wind turbines. At the border, at a stone cross from 1873, you will join the Austrian Nordwaldkammweg trail. Refreshments are available at the Alpenverein Helfenberger Hütte mountain hut or the hotel in the border town of Guglwald. From there, you will have the opportunity to explore the outdoor Iron Curtain memorial. On the way back, cross the border onto the hiking trail that will take you to the clear Hrský Stream. Please remember to visit the Multerberg peat bog and the memorial to the first citizen of Czechoslovakia, who was shot before the start of World War II, on the asphalt access road to the guesthouse.
